Hotel Heinz – Tourist attractions and environs

Hotel Heinz is in Riscone, near Brunico. Riscone is a pretty town at the feet of Mt. Plan de Corones, set in a beautiful green landscape far from large roads. Its location is peaceful, making it the ideal venue for a relaxing holiday, especially in summer.

Just 3 km from the town is the city of Brunico, the administrative capital of Val Pusteria. It has a medieval downtown centre and is busy with shops, restaurants and bars – well worth a visit. Brunico is a good idea for a shopping break or to visit its museum and its castle, inside which the famous mountain climber Reinhold Messner has set up one of his six museums dedicated to mountain people.

Brunico is particularly beautiful and romantic during the Christmas season. In the evening the city becomes a sea of lights and its lanes come alive with the scents of mulled wine and Christmas cookies and with the sounds of Christmas music. Brunico’s Christmas street market is one of the most attractive in the whole of South Tyrol. The bus that travels quickly to and from the Christmas market stops in Riscone directly opposite Hotel Heinz.

Messner Mountain Museum Corones

The sixth Messner Mountain Museum Corones is an absolutely special gem when one considers its position at an altitude of 2,275 m above sea level. The museum is dedicated to the theme of rocks and to the life of Alpine mountaineers, and offers a unique view out over the Dolomites. Plan de Corones has been selected as the ideal location for this museum that displays collections, photographs and objects collected over time by Reinhold Messner. The museum, designed by the celebrated architect Dame Zaha Hadid, is also a famous architectural attraction.

Messner Mountain Museum RIPA

The Messner Mountain Museum RIPA is located in the castle in Brunico, once the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops. The museum hosts a permanent exhibition of mountain peoples from all over the world. In the Tibetan language, RI stands for mountain and PA for man. The life of mountain peoples is presented to visitors via the reproduction of traditional dwellings, videos and meetings that highlight their ways of living, their cultures, their religions and the tourism solutions they offer.

The ethnographic museum of Teodone

The South Tyrolean folklore museum at Teodone is one of the most attractive open-air museums in Europe. Its four hectares of surface area host a series of mountain farm buildings and crafts workshops coming from various South Tyrolean valleys, displayed complete with original mountain farming furnishings and equipment. The museum is ideal for families because even smaller children never get bored in the open. There are also many farm animals, such as pigs and goats, to be admired up close. During the course of the year, the museum, open from Spring to Autumn, offers various events during which ancient trades are represented.

Neuhaus castle

Castel Neuhaus stands nearby Gais, a town located at the mouth of Val di Tures. The castle is privately owned and nowadays is used as a hotel and restaurant. A popular venue especially among families with children, the castle can be reached from Gais on a half-hour walk. There is also a ring excursion that passes by Villa Ottone and returns to the starting point.

Mining museum of Predoi - Valle Aurina

The Predoi mining museum was opened in 1996. Up until 1971, except during a few years of shutdown, the mine has been worked for copper ore. The route inside the tunnels illustrates the miners’ difficult working conditions. The museum is open from April to October. A unique feature is the climatic tunnel inside the mine that offers the ideal hygienic conditions of the air for alleviating allergies and other respiratory tract disorders.
